Newborns sleep, eat, & poop right?

Well not my guy- he is not a sleeper. He is a cheerful enough little guy, gets fussy and whatnot, but he is just so alert, all the time. I don't know what I am supposed to do with him. He seems to young to play with things- but I don't want to not stimulate him since he is so wide eyed and taking everything in. It is making sleep for me impossible, because he wants to be awake all the time. And when he does have a good chunk of a nap- it seems to be mid afternoon, when I can't sleep and just want to get things, like laundry, done. But at least he is a happy little man (knocking on some serious wood right now).

Chrysanth3mum- thank you thank you thank you for the double swaddle advice. I got him in the bassinet last night for his stretches, it was so nice to sleep in a bed instead of on the couch. I tried looking for a blog for you, but the ones your name linked to were old so I figured I would throw this in here :)

We are debating going straight to the crib. It makes the cosleeper I got as a gift a bit of a waste, however I am wondering the point of having him in the room. Transitioning him to the bassinet is a big enough problem- I wonder if we should not just go for the gold and put him in the crib. The whole idea behind the cosleeper was so that it would be easy to nurse and go right back to sleep and not have to get up. That is bogus- the kid needs his diaper changed whenever he gets up (I am not going to leave him soiled or wet), so if I have to get up and go into the nursery anyway to change him, the glider is in there to feed him, then why have him in our room (except for my own peace of mind). So I am internally debating that now- thoughts? opinions? experiences?

Speaking of the nursery- last I posted pics was just of the furniture. Here are some with all the goodies inside. Please ignore the short sheers- I bought the wrong length, and have no idea when I will get around to buying the longer length, and honestly just don't care right now LOL

Stepping into the room and looking right:

View from stading near the closet- first angled towards the right (window). Then angled towards the door. Organizing the hutch and bookshelf are on my to do list this week.

And Brooks. He is doing great- I have been a picture taking whore- but do have to upload some more, but here is a goodie :) I think you can see those cheeks filling out. We joke that I am makin cream, not milk, at the rate he is packing the pounds on. He gained 14 oz in 5 days- putting him at 8 lbs even. That means by the time he was 9 days old, he was already 3/4lb above his birth weight. That's my boy! grow Brooks grow :)

From what I've heard I wouldn't worry too much about trying to stimulate him, just looking around is stimulating for him. Newborns only see red, black, and white so you can draw black lines on an index card and hold it in front of him. The lines "dance" because of babies vision.
I would tend to encourage you putting him in the crib, eventually you all sleep better and like you said, why transition from the bed to co-sleeper, than the co-sleeper to crib. The crib would be good in the long run. Bria did pretty good in the crib, I started putting her in there for naps and after a few weeks she was doing so well that we put her in there at night. Whatever you do is totally fine though, every baby is different and you need to do what feels most comfortable for you.

I'm with Lulu on this one, all he really needs is your voice and to look around. Lyla isn't much of a sleeper either but we do try to get her down after she's been up for two hours and it has really helped to take away the evening fussies.

We slept with her in our room, in the PNP or her bouncy seat for the first two months. It has a changing table on it and took away the need to change rooms. In those early weeks MH would bring her to me, I fed her in bed, and he'd change her and put her back down.

Oh, and don't do the laundry, REST!!!!! Seriously, chores can wait.

Carly, I'm really glad that the double swaddle is working out for you. Indy really did well with it, and after only a couple of weeks we were able to get her to feel comfortable not so bundled up.

I've got to agree with Lindsey about going straight to the crib if you can make it happen. The more comfortable you can make him in there now, the less anguish later on. Indigo sleeps in hers every night now, and it was totally by accident. Putting her in the crib was a last ditch effort on a super overtired night and it somehow worked.

For a while, we put her bouncy seat in the crib, and she slept in there nicely with the vibrate on. We've since transitioned her directly into the crib with no real crying or stress. Doubt it will be like this next time around, but we'll sure try!

You're doing great!

Carly, the nursery looks gorgeous!
Someone told me to "wear" the crib or bassinet sheet under my clothes for a day. Apparently the smell of "mom" will rub off and make the kiddo more comfortable sleeping in a strange place. Also, Jack has a terror to put to bed until about 7-8 weeks.

Oh, and Jack was Mr. Alert too. At this age, we took lots of walks to help him sleep.
